Course Summary

The entry requirement for this qualification is:

  • UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician; or
  • Current ‘Unrestricted Electricians Licence’ or its equivalent issued in an Australian state or territory.

Some of the core units of this qualification are credit transferred from Certificate III in Electrotechnology. Evidence of prior attainment of this qualification or an unrestricted electrical licence will be required.

A moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is recommended. Participants will undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment prior to enrolment to identify any educational support needs.

The UEE40420 Certificate IV in Electrical – Instrumentation provides a pathway for licensed electricians to gain a nationally recognised qualification in instrumentation. The qualifications cover theoretical and practical skills and knowledge to be able to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain equipment and systems for the control of plant, machines and processes.

This qualification is made up of nine (9) core units and a range of elective units of competency. In order to attain this qualification, some of the units are credit transferred from a participant’s electrical trade training. The remaining units are completed in two components*:

  1. On enrolment, participants will be provided with an online Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Kit for four (4) core units of the qualification. The online RPL Kit provides guidance through the process of gathering evidence in support of the assessment application. The kit contains questions and recommended documents for submission to provide the assessor with sufficient evidence to determine whether the participant is competent in these units.
  2. The classroom component of the course consists of two 5-day blocks of training, scheduled approximately one month apart. The course covers the following topics:
  • Installation;
  • Commissioning;
  • Fault finding; and
  • Maintenance of electrical instrumentation systems and equipment.

*Both components of the course must be successfully completed before the qualification can be issued.
