Course Summary

This 3-hour course covers the knowledge and skills required to effectively understand the requirements of building in a bushfire prone area including:

  • Overview of recent bushfires, the damage caused and the post recovery.
  • Overview and understanding of regulatory context for building in Bushfire prone areas.
  • State Planning and building laws in relation to bushfire construction.
  • The bushfire construction requirements for a house in an area affected by a BAL.
  • How to assess a building site to determine the bushfire building requirements.
  • Construction requirements for building a deck.
  • Construction requirements for building a garage, carport or similar structure.
  • Improving the bushfire resistance of existing structures.
