CPP40121 Certificate IV in Residential Drafting is the entry level qualification for those wishing to enter the building design and drafting sector.

The course reflects the role of entry level drafters, equipping students with the skills to use industry leading 3D BIM CAD software to draft and document residential Class 1 and 10 buildings, under the supervision of an accredited building designer or architect.

The qualification delivers the foundational knowledge of and understanding of construction materials, construction systems, compliance, and planning requirements.

The qualification covers 10 units of competency, including 7 core units and 3 electives.

The qualification attracts a range of different groups of students:

- Students entering the industry and seeking employment working alongside a building designer, architect, builder etc. These students include high school graduates, career changers and the unemployed.

- Informally educated building designers that want to get their skills formalized into a qualification

- Internationally qualified professionals, such as architects and building designers, that need local knowledge and/or 3D BIM CAD knowledge, in order to secure work in the industry.

- Builders upskilling (already in the industry) and wish to add design and drafting to the services they offer their clients

- Design Professionals from other industries, e.g., interior design, graphic designers and engineers, that wish to add to their existing skill set.
