Course Summary
This 1-hour online course shows how to assess the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) risk and also how to reference the appropriate Australian Standard.
This course covers the following key learning outcomes:
Building rules for bushfire prone areas
- An overview of the Australian regulatory requirements
- An introduction to the National Construction Code (NCC) and referenced standards
Determining a site Bushfire Attack Level (BAL)
- What is BAL
- How to calculate BAL
- Understanding what impacts BAL
Construction requirements
An overview of construction requirements for each BAL including:
- Fire resistant materials
- Construction framing and roofing
- Cladding
- Garages
Existing buildings – alterations and extensions
Information and examples of the types of measures builders and home owners can apply to improve bushfire performance of existing buildings or undertaking renovations and extensions to homes in bushfire areas.
