Course Summary
This course outlines the skills and knowledge required to perform First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.
The course applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Within this course candidates will learn how to:
- Recognise and Respond to an emergency situation
- Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for First Aid/ CPR
- Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
- Communicate details of the incident
- Perform CPR procedures
- Operate automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Apply appropriate first aid procedures
- Operate first aid equipment- including bandages, wraps, etc.
- Evaluate the incident and own performance
- Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved
- Participate in debriefing to address individual needs
