Course Summary

This three-day short course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to safely operate a forklift truck.

You will learn to perform pre-operation checks, plan work, and check controls on equipment. You’ll also learn about shifting and stacking the load, and gain experience in loading and unloading, as well as shutting down the equipment and securing the work site after works have been completed.

If you already have some experience in operating a forklift, but need to get licenced, we may be able to offer you an ‘assessment only’ option utilising a log book, or reduce the training you may require. Please contact us to discuss these operations.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit completed.

Note – You must be 18 years of age and comply with the requirements outlined in the application for high-risk work published by WorkSafe Tasmania and have a satisfactory level of literacy and numeracy.

Successful participants are able to apply for a National High Risk Work Licence (Forklift truck) as issued by Workplace Standards Tasmania under the Work Health & Safety Act 2012.

This Licence is valid for five years and will then require renewal:

  • You’ll need to renew your licence every five years. WorkSafe Tasmania will post you a renewal notice, to the address you have registered with us.
  • If you do not receive your renewed licence within 60 days of your application, you’ll need to call WorkSafe.
  • You cannot perform high risk work while your licence has expired.
  • Re-assessment is required if you do not renew your licence within this 12 months.
  • This course does not include the licence fee payable upon successful completion at Service Tasmania.
