Course Summary
This course covers the skills and knowledge required to operate, load, haul and dump materials using an articulated haul truck safely, effectively and efficiently according to workplace procedures, including:
- pre-start checks prior to commencing operations;
- driving and manoeuvring the articulated haul vehicle, and adjusting techniques to suit work conditions;
- operating the vehicle within equipment operating capacities;
- positioning the vehicle for loading materials under at least one of the following types of loading equipment:
- shovels, wheel loaders, excavators, bins, conveyor belts;
- hauling materials to a designated location such as Tip Head, Crusher pocket, Waste Dump;
- positioning the vehicle for dumping materials;
- unloading materials in a designated location, limiting spillage;
- conducting vehicle shutdown and refuelling;
- identifying issues with vehicle equipment and making minor adjustments;
- written and verbal reporting.
