Course Summary
Vehicle Operation – heavy vehicle pilot licence
This course consists of units of competency in the Transport and Logistics Training Package; it is delivered in a classroom environment, encouraging interaction and knowledge sharing between participants, with practical application of skills in a simulated work environment.
Course content
- Legislation, regulations and codes of practice
- Hazard and risk assessment and minimisation
- Workplace policies, procedures and industry best practice
- Dangerous goods, hazardous substances, warning systems, controls and indicators
- Operating procedures for controlling traffic during piloting duties
- Evaluating breakdown and emergency situations and implementing control procedures
- Identifying inconsistencies with optimum performance
- Undertaking pre-and post-operational checks and relevant document completion
- Height, width and mass limitations of bridges, tunnels and other structures
- Required vehicle positioning, traffic warnings and directional signalling procedures
- Communication and documentation requirements
- Typical problems that may arise with technology Learning outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
- Apply relevant regulations, legislation and workplace procedures
- Assess relevant risks and hazards
- Reporting and documentation requirements
- Efficiently and safely pilot oversized and overmassed loads
