Young Tasmanians Get Work Ready

Queenstown grade 10-12 students experienced working in the civil construction industry when they took part in the Get into Civil work-ready program, facilitated by Damian Peirce of the Industry Training Hubs, and funded by Keystone Tasmania.

Consisting of units from the Certificate II in Civil Construction, the program is designed to equip students with practical skills as they prepare to enter the workforce. It saw the students undertake training by Link Resources in Entering Confined Spaces and Gas Testing Atmospheres.

They also participated in site visits to the Zeehan Waste Management Facility and a civil construction site run by Batchelor Construction Group, as well as heard from Civil Construction Federation (CCF) CEO, Andrew Winch on pathways into the civil construction industry.

Nine students were offered work on the Zeehan site after the completion of their training, which is a great outcome and a potential beginning to a career in civil construction for these young Tasmanians.
