Eight migrant apprentices have gained a valuable head start in the building and construction industry following their graduation as part of the Migrant Resource Centre North: Careers in Building and Construction Program.
The integrated support program, run by the Migrant Resource Centre North and supported by Keystone, sees six-to-eight people of refugee background given work opportunities in building and construction, with a particular focus on allied and finishing trades.
Our Strategic Projects Manager – Workforce Development, Brett Withington was honoured to attend the program’s graduation night, which was held on Thursday 24 November in Launceston.
“It was so great to again see some of the magnificent projects Keystone Tasmania funds and the difference it is making, in this case, to migrants and their family’s lives,” Brett said.
Out of the eight participants, two have now gained apprenticeships, one a permanent position, and two have picked up casual work.
