HIA Apprentices launches in Tasmania

Stuart Collins
HIA Executive Director
Tasmania

HIA’s Apprenticeship scheme has launched in Tasmania, enhancing its national reputation as a leading Group Training Organisation while encouraging more Tasmanians to pursue careers in the residential construction industry.

HIA is excited to be providing an apprentice program that will offer opportunities for industry to host our apprentices and trainees using our experience in delivering these services for over 30 years.

HIA has a proven track record of high retention and completion rates. Its support of apprentices and trainees through ‘wrap around’ services such as literacy/numeracy courses, personal tutoring, job ready training, mentoring and individual financial assistance contributes to the success of its apprentice program.

A feature of HIA’s apprentice program in Tasmania is its focus on diversity groups that has been enabled through State government funding under the High-Vis Army initiative. Under this funding HIA will provide pathways and support people with disabilities, learning difficulties, English as a second language, indigenous, mature age, women, those living in remote and regional locations, refugees and from social or community housing backgrounds.

HIA will also assist host trainers with apprentice selection, training, safety and financial incentives.

While HIA’s youthBuild program that is heavily supported by Keystone Tasmania, will continue to offer ‘work ready’ skills to Year 9 and 10 students throughout schools in Tasmania creating a pool of quality apprentice candidates.

With a strong pipeline of work and a range of incentives never has there been a better time to invest in the future of industry by taking on an apprentice or trainee. Contact HIA Apprentice Manager, Darren Turner for more information on apprenticeship opportunities - d.turner@hia.com.au
